celebrate your victories every day
It was exactly 165 days into my new globetrotting lifestyle when it hit me. I was living the dream. My dream, specifically. And somehow this realization came as a complete shock to me.

At the time, I was obsessed with a question: If money didn’t exist, what would I spend my life doing?

When I thought about it that way – with the concept of money gone forever – my answers became clear to me. Prior to this question, I frequently asked “What would I do if I knew I could not fail?” All sorts of business-related goals came to mind. They’re still true, but they always felt like they were missing something. For me, that little shift in wording really seemed to help.

So the first thing that came to mind was “travel the world”. My jaw dropped. Really? Had I been so busy traveling that I hadn’t noticed how fulfilling it was? Actually, yes. I was barreling through my life so fast that I wasn’t taking time to truly enjoy it. Savor it. Celebrate it.

That’s when I remembered the old advice to celebrate your victories. Pretty simple, but something that I had totally forgotten to do. And the best part is that I can celebrate anything. Everything, really. I’m in the habit now to do a little happy dance every time I have a mini-victory. For every yummy meal I prepare, every blog post I write, any phone call that makes me smile, a new idea that inspires me, or even just a good night’s sleep. They’re all victories, and when I take a minute to congratulate myself, I’m in a much better mood.

So take stock of all your victories and celebrate something everyday. I mean it, you have to make this a daily priority! Write it on your calendar or set yourself an e-reminder: Party Every Day. Do a little fist pumping, high fiving, Gratitude Dancing, look in the mirror and tell yourself you’re awesome, or shout a Hallelujah! Whatever makes you smile and commemorates the moment.

Take a minute right now to see what you can celebrate. I think you’ll be surprised at how long the list really is. And you know what makes a party even better: having lots of guests to celebrate with. So I encourage you to share your victories by leaving a comment below. Let the whole world know what you’re celebrating right now.

Much thanks to Thiago Martins for use of the lovely high-energy photo.

I really enjoyed your blog. Yes it is so important to celebrate our little victories. We can become far too interested in focusing on what's wrong with us, never being present to the joys of life. Focusing on the negative keeps us stuck in a familiar trap, the trap is 'safe' but it can feel lifeless. Like Marianne Williamson says “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." Step into your power today, it's the biggest gift you can give to yourself, andthe world. Julie Mann Habitfixer
